Yesterday our fav Strip-hopper Crystal Precious was on Co-op radio with the The F Word Media Collective, a feminist media collective based in Vancouver, BC to discuss feminism and the Neo Burlesque movement. I was super interested to hear the debate and overall thought things went well considering they really only had an hour to get into it. I think CP did well being authentic and repping for the community and I especially enjoyed her argument about saying you don’t like burlesque being the equivalent to saying you don’t like music when you’re not accounting for genre. It is difficult to discuss the hows and whys of such a diverse artform especially when so much depends on context. I probably would have brought up the part where I think seeing a variety of body types as well as the glamour aspect being something that women come to the shows to see but that might just be something I like when I go to shows. I will be tuning in fer sure!!
